HECS-HELP is a two part system scheme designed to support students by providing a discount on tax or a loan.
HECS-HELP serves a number of purposes:
HECS-HELP includes HECS-HELP Benefit, HECS-HELP Discount and Higher Education Loan Program (HELP)
HECS-HELP Benefit is designed to encourage graduates to take up employment in related occupations or to work in specific locations. HECS-HELP Benefit provides either a reduction in accumulated HELP debt or a compulsory repayment for an eligible graduate.
HECS-HELP Discount is a figure paid by the Government to the education/course provider when the student makes a partial or full up-front payment of $500 or more of their student contribution. Note: Payment must be made on or before the census date.
The Higher Education Loan Program is a run by the Australian Government loan to help eligible students pay their overseas study expenses, student contributions and tuition fees. These loans are repaid through the tax system and can be calculated on the salary calculator.
